Life without love is useless. Once a person understands the meaning of love, the universe turns different around him. Once we figure this out, all other manufactured differences that we are taught about each other disappear, and enable us to create a better world. Love (Hubb or Ishq) is clear, crystal, pure, simple, and more importantly, sincere. It does not matter what kind of love a person seeks—be it divine, spiritual, or mundane. Simply the world around lover turns different when fire loves water.
One must not worship Allah out of fear to hell or heaven; this is not a pure love and devotion. God is full of love, compassion and mercy; His love is infinite and everlasting; it is our containers which are so small and our thirst is less. Without the sweet life of love, living is burden. In the heart of a true lover, we can find always the abode of God. His love, affection, mercy for each of us is way deeper that we can imagine. The fault is that we have restricted the love of God to that extent as we have measured His love once. His affection is not something that we can measure; it is beyond and even impossible to express His Love in terms of quantity.
The relationship with God is something personal one may have a relationship with his God but that is not the real thing. As God is the ultimate source of love, I wonder, how religiosity has divided God who is not a religious entity but sublime. These divisions have only led us towards more divisions. Why cannot we choose one another as companions and sit at each other’s feet? Love has no logo, no definition; it is so pure, so simple. The Qur’an stands as a constant reminder to us all on the power of devotion and faith towards God, which in turn is often represented through our deep love for God. Loving God can enable us to truly worship and devote Him. God wants us to be in heaven. Even though we sin but He doesn’t stop loving us. His love is not like that love which is enthroned in the hearts of our parents and kings: “And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate” (Surah al Buruj, 85: 14). Rumi, the sagacious sage, says that how we see God is a direct reflection of how we see ourselves if God brings to mind mostly fear and blame; it means there is the much fear and blame welled inside us. If we see God as full of love and compassion, so are we. Once we will inculcate this attribute of love within us, then it is possible that we can show mercy, love and affection to helpless, homeless, penniless, blind, lame and leper. Love and Let love.
