Srinagar: Scores of commuters Saturday expressed their resentment against the traffic department for failing to act against the violators.
They said due to snail’s pace of mini buses are the major concern in the city and traffic police have failed to act against the selfish drivers.
Minibuses which ply on dozens of routes in city have become a problematic for the passengers as these vehicles resort to frequent stops.
Zahoor Abbas a commuter at Parimpora said that due to lack of efficient public transport, they have travel in mini buses which often resort to overloading.
He said they have complained many times to concerned authorities but it seems they are not serious about the public.
“Traffic cops on duty are acting as mute spectators, and are taking action against these irking drivers,” he said.
The group of students at Batamaloo said that due to snail’s pace of mini buses, they often miss their classes in the couching institutes.
Mohammad Hashim, a student at Batamaloo said, “it takes 1 and half hours to reach Hyderpora from Batamaloo as the drivers are hesitant to gear up even for a single movement.”
He said it is not the fault of these mini bus drivers; it is fault of poor traffic rules which are implemented here and no action is taken against the violators.
Due to overloading and frequent stopping, commuters are the most sufferers, Hashim said.
An official at Regional Transport Officer said that if anyone would be found violating the rules, would be challenged as per the new motor vehicle laws.
“If anyone would be found guilty his permit will be cancelled on the spot,” the official said adding that people should not board such vehicles to risk their own lives.
Another official at Traffic department said traffic police is acting against the violators and people should also not board the overloading vehicles. (JKNS).
