Srinagar, June 30 : Unscheduled power outages have sparked anger among residents and shopkeepers in Maisuma, with the Traders Association Maisuma Bazar demanding immediate intervention from the Power Development Department.
Despite the area being fully metered and cabled two months ago — an upgrade promised to ensure reliable supply — locals say they face nearly two hours of load-shedding during the day and another two hours every evening.
“Metering was implemented with assurances of uninterrupted supply, but the ground reality tells a different story. Residents are paying their bills on time yet face up to four hours of outages daily. This is unacceptable,” a spokesperson of the Traders Association said.
Residents of the densely populated commercial hub said the frequent cuts are disrupting daily life, hampering businesses, upending household routines and affecting students’ studies. Shopkeepers noted that outages during peak evening hours are hitting trade hard, while the ongoing heatwave has compounded the hardship.
The Traders Association has urged the Chief Engineer, PDD, and the concerned Executive Engineer to intervene promptly and ensure adherence to the announced curtailment schedule.
Locals have also sought a clarification from PDD officials on the reasons behind the continued outages and demanded a concrete timeline for restoration of uninterrupted supply to Maisuma.
