Chinar Strikers defeat B’la by 1-0 to lift winning trophy
Chinar Strikers on Friday won the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament by defeating Baramulla by 1-0 at Polo View Hockey Stadium, Srinagar.
The tournament which started on 19 Aug 2024 was organised by Headquarter 31 Sub Area of Chinar Corps in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and Hockey J&K, to commemorate National Sports Day.
A total of 12 teams from 10 districts of Kashmir Valley participated in the tournament organized on league basis.
This was 2nd edition of hockey tournament. A total of 12 league matches and two semi-finals were played for run up to the final match.
Ramandeep from Baramula was awarded ‘Man of the Match’ medal for his outstanding performance in the final match.
Muneer from Shopian was awarded ‘Best Goalkeeper’ of the tournament for displaying solid defence at goal post and Kamal from Chinar Strikers was adjudged as ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
The tournament celebrated in the honour of Major Dhyan Chand, the greatest field hockey player of the country on his birthday on 29 August every year.
The tournament was also supported by Liberty Group where they distributed hockey shoes and bags to the players.
To promote Womens Hockey in Kashmir Valley, an exhibition match was played between Baramula & Srinagar before commencement of the finals.
GOC Chinar Corps was the Chief Guest for the final match along with GOC 31 Sub Area and Padmshree Awardee Shri Pargat Singh, Former Indian Hockey Team Captain was a Special Guest for the finals.
