Srinagar, Dec 24: In a significant development under the Smart City Project, extensive renovation efforts are in full swing in Shehr-e-Khaas, the heart of the summer capital. The initiative, spearheaded by Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), is focused on preserving the rich heritage of the ancient city by rejuvenating its bridges and historic buildings.
The SSCL has allocated a budget of ₹1.80 crore for the redesign of the iconic Habba Kadal Bridge, drawing inspiration from the architecture of the renowned Zero Bridge in Civil Lines. Once completed, the revamped bridge will feature ample seating spaces, Gazebos, and kiosks, catering exclusively to pedestrians. The project aims not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area but also to provide a comfortable and picturesque environment for residents and visitors alike.
As part of the broader revitalization effort, a substantial ₹40 crore project is underway for underground electric ducting, drainage/sewerage systems, and the rationalization of electric utilities. The Copper Market in Zaina Kadal and Mahraj Gunj is set to undergo a facelift, ensuring a more organized and efficient urban landscape.
A ₹23 crore initiative is actively transforming the Dalgate-Gojwara corridor via Dastageer Sahib Shrine. This comprehensive project encompasses the upgradation of roads, construction of footpaths, rationalization of utilities, and the construction of an eight-kilometer drainage network for stormwater. Plazas at various intersections are also being constructed to enhance the overall experience for residents and tourists.
The ongoing projects underscore the commitment of the authorities to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of Shehr-e-Khaas. The revitalization efforts not only aim to beautify the landscape but also to create functional spaces that align with modern urban standards.
