Market checking : Overdated products destroyed in Srinagar

June 04, 2025 | BK News Service

In line with the directives of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, the Food Safety Department has intensified market inspections across the city to ensure adherence to high standards of food safety and hygiene.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner Yameen ul Nabi conducted surprise inspections of several bakery outlets in key areas including Safa Kadal, Sakedafar, Nawakadal, Rajouri Kadal, Nowhatta, and adjoining localities.
During the inspections, several food items were found to be past their expiry date. These products were voluntarily destroyed on-site by the Food Business Operators (FBOs) in compliance with food safety norms.
The primary objective of the ongoing drive is to maintain stringent checks on the quality of food products being produced and sold in the retail market. Officials reiterated that all FBOs must strictly follow proper storage practices and food safety regulations.
The department has warned that any FBO found violating safety standards or compromising on hygiene will face strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
