Jammu, June 18: Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education Sakeena Itoo today chaired a comprehensive multi-departmental review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY), Muharram arrangements, monsoon readiness, and delivery of essential public services across Jammu.

The Minister reviewed in detail the medical arrangements being put in place for the Yatra, including deployment of doctors and paramedical staff, availability of medicines, ambulance services, sanitation, drinking water supply, and power backup at transit camps and key locations along the pilgrimage route.
She directed the Health Department and district administrations to ensure round-the-clock medical availability and adequate healthcare support for pilgrims. The Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering Department were instructed to guarantee uninterrupted electricity and potable water supply at all designated sites.
While reviewing preparations for Muharram, Sakeena Itoo stressed coordinated efforts among departments to ensure smooth civic arrangements and adherence to guidelines issued by the Chief Minister, in close coordination with local committees.
She also instructed Government Medical College Jammu to maintain sufficient stocks of essential medicines and equipment, and called for strengthening ambulance services, particularly in remote and monsoon-prone areas vulnerable to connectivity disruptions.
Focusing on preventive healthcare, the Minister directed 100 percent coverage during the upcoming Pulse Polio Day on June 28 and emphasized intensified public awareness campaigns to ensure maximum participation.
On monsoon preparedness, she asked the Roads & Buildings, Irrigation & Flood Control, and PHE departments to expedite repairs of damaged infrastructure, desilting of drainage channels and nallahs, and restoration works. Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jammu Development Authority were directed to intensify sanitation drives, fumigation, and scientific waste management to prevent waterlogging and seasonal disease outbreaks.
Reviewing essential services, she instructed the Power Development Department to strictly follow scheduled supply, reduce transformer repair time to under 24 hours, and improve infrastructure safety. The PHE Department was asked to ensure regular tap water supply and arrange tankers in uncovered areas.
In the education sector, the Minister called for timely completion of admissions and commencement of academic sessions, while stressing research-oriented learning with focus on Artificial Intelligence and strengthening Government school enrolment under Samagra Shiksha.
She also directed the Transport Department to enforce fare regulations, curb overcharging and rash driving, and improve public transport in remote areas. The Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department was asked to conduct regular inspections to ensure quality control, fair pricing, and adequate stock of essentials including ration and LPG.
Sakeena Itoo emphasized coordinated governance and directed all departments to submit Action Taken Reports (ATRs) before the next review meeting.
Officials from various departments, including Health, Education, Power, PHE, R&B, JMC, JDA, Tourism, Agriculture and others participated in the meeting, with some officers joining virtually.
