
In a comprehensive review visit, Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo chaired a high-level meeting with Heads of Departments and District Officers to evaluate developmental progress and public welfare initiatives in Bandipora district.
The meeting, attended by MLA Bandipora Nizam Uddin Bhat, DDC Vice-Chairperson Kousar Shafeeq, Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, and senior officials from various departments, focused on efficient implementation of government schemes and resolution of critical infrastructure and service delivery issues.
Minister Itoo emphasized the need for timely execution of projects and close inter-departmental coordination. She praised the district administration for their dedication and assured continued government support in fast-tracking public welfare initiatives.
The Minister also laid the e-foundation for a Lift Irrigation Scheme to augment water supply to New Reshi Khul and Dehgam Khul, and e-inaugurated a Composite School at N.M. HSS Kaloosa.
During a visit to Government Degree College (GDC) Bandipora, she inspected facilities and ongoing developmental work. Principal Dr. Gazala Firdous highlighted the institution’s achievements. MLA Nizam Uddin Bhat raised infrastructure demands, including a new library block, auditorium, and sports field development.
While acknowledging the college's scenic setting, the Minister noted poor approach roads and promised action. She directed the Higher Education Department to initiate library construction and instructed the Deputy Commissioner to prioritize campus beautification.
In an interactive session with students, the Minister addressed concerns over transport, faculty shortages, and academic delays. She committed to improving transport services and filling teaching positions promptly.
Later, Minister Itoo distributed 27 retrofitted motorized tricycles to specially-abled individuals under the Social Welfare Department and disbursed Rs. 1.23 crore in sponsorship benefits under Mission Vatsalya.
Concluding her visit, she held a Public Darbar to directly hear grievances and suggestions from locals, assuring prompt redressal and follow-up.
