
Emphasizes timely execution and public-centric governance
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo today chaired a comprehensive review meeting of district Srinagar to assess ongoing development projects and welfare initiatives.
The meeting was attended by several MLAs, including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarakh Gul, Shamim Firdous, and others, along with Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, senior officials from SMC, SKIMS, and heads of various departments.
The Minister reviewed the performance of departments and implementation progress of key schemes such as Mission Yuva, HADP, PM Surya Ghar, and the National TB Elimination Programme. She also evaluated financial and physical progress under CAPEX, MPLADs, CDF, AMRUT 2.0, and other schemes.
Emphasizing a result-oriented approach, Minister Itoo directed departments to ensure timely completion of projects and address public grievances effectively. She reiterated the Government’s focus on strengthening healthcare and emergency services, and instructed officials to upgrade road connectivity to major hospitals like SKIMS, SMHS, Bone & Joint, and Lal Ded. Coordination with traffic police was also stressed for decongesting access routes.
The Minister called for consultation with local MLAs before launching new initiatives, stating that elected representatives play a critical role in developmental planning. She urged officers to dispose of all pending scheme applications promptly and ensure applicants are informed about deficiencies without delay.
Minister Itoo also directed the administration to organize public awareness camps in collaboration with MLAs to improve outreach and participation in government schemes.
Reviewing urban services, the Minister emphasized the importance of efficient sanitation, drainage, and sustainable urban planning. She instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to complete existing projects before starting new ones and ensure quality standards are upheld.
Highlighting the legacy of single-line administration introduced by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah, she stressed on inter-departmental coordination and accountability to deliver citizen-friendly governance.
“Srinagar is the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, and its development reflects the progress of the entire region,” the Minister said, calling for a united and focused approach to make the city one of the cleanest and most progressive in the country.
She concluded by reaffirming the Omar Abdullah-led Government’s commitment to transparent and people-centric development.
