Min Itoo urges youth to drive societal change

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today highlighted the crucial role of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth in building a just and developed society. She was addressing the valedictory session of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect programme at Amar Singh College, organized by Cluster University Srinagar (CUS).
Commending the vibrant participation of students, the Minister said youth are the real change-makers, capable of spreading awareness on key societal issues like drug abuse, health, and hygiene. “Our youth are incredibly talented and their abilities are evident through initiatives like the Yuva Connect,” she said, calling for more efforts to harness this potential for nation-building.
She also applauded CUS for successfully conducting a wide array of events and acknowledged the University’s role in promoting participatory governance and youth leadership under the Viksit Bharat initiative.
Appreciating the performances in the Youth Parliament, she expressed confidence that many of the participants had the potential to lead in politics and public service.
Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, Shantmanu, emphasised the need for youth-driven progress and highlighted the initiative's goal of preparing India’s youth to contribute meaningfully towards building a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047.
CUS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Mobin spoke about the university’s academic reforms, including new job-oriented courses, research programs, and alignment with the National Education Policy 2020. He also outlined the unique Cluster University model initiated by the J&K Government in 2016.
Registrar Prof. Syed Wilayat Rizvi acknowledged the contributions of students and faculty in making the programme a success, while reiterating the importance of youth engagement in shaping India’s future.
The Minister also felicitated winners of various events like the Inter-College Debate, Youth Parliament, and Poster Competition on Drug Abuse. A special AV presentation and documentary on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were also showcased.
The event concluded with the administration of the Viksit Bharat Pledge, affirming collective commitment toward nation-building.
