
Srinagar, Mar 30: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Monday directed strict action against private schools involved in arbitrary fee hikes and violations of prescribed norms, stressing that exploitation of parents will not be tolerated.
Chairing a review meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education at the Civil Secretariat, the Minister asked officials to ensure regular monitoring and inspections of private institutions, including CBSE-affiliated schools.
“Any attempt to impose unjustified financial burdens on parents must be dealt with firmly,” she said, directing the formation of inspection committees comprising officials from the School Education Department and JKBOSE.
The meeting reviewed key aspects of JKBOSE functioning, including exam preparedness, timely declaration of results, curriculum implementation and grievance redressal. The Minister emphasized adopting technology-driven systems to improve transparency and coordination.
Calling for a student-centric approach, she said the Board must uphold fairness, accessibility and academic standards, while maintaining accountability at all levels. She also directed timely declaration of Class 10 results for summer zone areas.
Commissioner Secretary Education Ram Niwas Sharma and JKBOSE Chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh briefed the meeting on reforms and initiatives under NEP-2020, including curriculum updates, vocational education and digital interventions.
Officials said JKBOSE has expanded online services and integrated student records with DigiLocker, benefiting lakhs of students. New initiatives such as dual-level mathematics, skill-based programmes and holistic progress cards are also in the pipeline.
Reaffirming commitment to quality education, the Minister called for stronger coordination among stakeholders to build a transparent, accountable and student-friendly education system across Jammu and Kashmir.
