May 09, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid

Srinagar, May 8: Social and political activist Mir Firdous has welcomed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir” campaign, describing it as a timely and essential step to address the growing menace of drug addiction in the Union Territory.

In a statement, Mir Firdous said the initiative reflects a strong commitment towards protecting the youth from substance abuse and building a healthier, more productive society. He said the campaign must be implemented with sustained ground-level action involving administration, civil society, educational institutions and community leaders.
Emphasising the role of youth in shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir, he urged young people to actively distance themselves from drugs and instead channel their energy into sports, education and constructive activities. He said addiction not only destroys individual lives but also weakens families and society at large.
Mir Firdous also called for greater awareness programmes in schools and colleges, along with stronger rehabilitation and counselling facilities for those affected. He stressed that prevention through education and engagement is the most effective long-term solution.
He further said that sports and cultural activities should be expanded at the grassroots level to provide youth with positive outlets and opportunities for growth.
Reiterating support for the campaign, he said collective effort and community participation are essential to achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
