A family of six, including two minors, had a miraculous escape after their houseboat capsized into the River Jhelum near Convent School Rajbagh Srinagar on Wednesday.
The houseboat belonged to one Abdul Khaliq Guroo, a resident of Rajbagh Srinagar. According to eyewitness accounts, the houseboat capsized due to the rising water level in the river.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued all six members of the family. The houseboat sank, causing damage worth lakhs of rupees.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of houseboats in Srinagar. The government has been urged to take steps to ensure the safety of houseboats and their occupants.
