Mughal Road open amid fresh snowfall

October 25, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Shopian, Oct 24: The upper reaches of Shopian district received fresh snowfall while rainfall lashed the plains on Friday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region.

Fresh snow was reported from Pir Ki Gali, a high-altitude stretch along the historic Mughal Road connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts in the Jammu region.
Despite the snowfall, the Mughal Road remains open for vehicular traffic, according to information available.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for maintaining the road, has kept its personnel and machinery on standby to deal with any weather-related challenges, including snow accumulation or traffic obstructions.
The district administration is also monitoring the prevailing weather conditions, particularly in the upper reaches, as temperatures continue to fall.
The Mughal Road serves as an important alternative route between Kashmir and the Jammu region. However, snowfall and icy conditions around Pir Ki Gali can pose challenges to commuters if the weather deteriorates.
Travellers have been advised to check the latest traffic advisories and confirm the road status with the concerned authorities before embarking on their journey.
