Nested in the picturesque Pir-Panjal region, the valley is surrounded by luscious, dense, and charming evergreen forests that look so natural and feel like a piece of heaven. Nawan Valley is just 15 kilometers away from the mainland Gulmarg and only 2 kilometers from Butapathri, at an altitude of 8,694 feet above sea level. Nawan Valley is divided into small, picturesque landscapes filled with beauty and nature. This beautiful valley is located between the Butapathri Behak & Nawan Behak. The water flowing through the eastern side of the valley makes it even more attractive and beautiful. The best time to visit Nawan Valley is from June to September, which is the summer season when the entire valley is full of blooming flowers and greenery. This is also the best time to go for a picnic and relax in this beautiful landscape. It is also the perfect time for trekking and sightseeing without having to deal with the bitter cold of winter.

As spring awakens, the valley transforms into a kaleidoscope of colours, with vibrant blooms of flowers dancing in the gentle breeze and their beauty lying in their effortless charm and resilience. Their beauty is a reminder of the simple pleasures in life, inviting us to slow down, appreciate, and connect with the natural world. As the seasons change, the valley's wildflowers adapt to a constant display of colour, making every trek, hike, or stroll a visually stunning experience.
Traditional destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg have always driven the attraction of tourists. In the past few years, North Kashmir's border areas have witnessed a significant surge in tourism. New destinations are emerging, offering a fresh perspective on the region's splendour. Among these, Bangus, Butapathri, Keran, Gurez, and Machil are becoming the latest hotspots. However, traditional destinations have lost their charm, and tourists are now in search of new and virgin destinations. Nawan Valley is expected to become the hotspot of North Kashmir in the coming years.
The Nowgam-Gulmarg trekking trail, an 18-kilometer-long journey from the foothills of Nowgam Thandkasi, a village in Tehsil Narvaw, up to Gulmarg, passes through this beautiful valley. The valley hosts a shrine known as Khadi Shareef (کھڈی شریف). According to the residents, the shrine is about 300 years old. This place is famous for miracles, and people from different areas visit this shrine every year to seek divine blessings. Though the name of the noble soul is unknown, the shrine is famous for the name of Khadi Shareef, and it is believed that the noble soul came from Poonch through the Kangdoori-Sawajian Pass. On the last tip of this charming valley there is a residential area, Gujjar community of Mehmoodabad Baramulla migrates from their homeland to this valley in the month of April in search of suitable environment for their cattle’s and stay in this valley for almost 6 months and return back to their homeland in the month of October every year.
There are two different routes to reach Nawan Valley: one is via Gulmarg, and the other is via Nowgam Thandkasi, which is a trekking trail. While visiting Nawan Valley via Gulmarg, one will cross and see Nagin-1, Nagin-2, Nagin-3, and Butapathri. While visiting via Nowgam Thandkasi, one will pass through Tri-Naran Valley, which is also a dream destination for explorers. In the adjacent area, one will encounter unique landscapes and meadows such as Ranglari, Somawali, Chorkhudan, Naka, and Asha or Lein Marg.
