Srinagar, Nov 1 : A meeting of the National Conference Block Eidgah unit is underway at the residence of senior party leader and Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul in Srinagar.

The joint meeting has been convened with participation of Block In-charges, party functionaries, Halqa representatives, Mohalla Committee members and workers from Eidgah constituency.
Sources said the meeting has been called to discuss organisational affairs, including strengthening the party at the grassroots, reviewing ongoing activities, improving coordination among cadres and drawing up future strategy.
The meeting comes at a time when uncertainty prevails over Mubarak Gul’s position in the party.
It may be recalled that Mubarak Gul was appointed as National Conference General Secretary by party president Dr Farooq Abdullah on October 27, after incumbent Ali Mohammad Sagar was inducted into the Omar Abdullah-led Council of Ministers.
However, in a fresh order issued on October 30, the party directed Ali Mohammad Sagar to continue as General Secretary till further orders, triggering confusion over Gul’s appointment.
Sources close to Mubarak Gul had earlier said that he had not accepted the post and that his supporters were mounting pressure on him to resign, upset over his exclusion from the recent Cabinet expansion.
Meanwhile, Mubarak Gul has announced that he will speak on the recent organisational developments at a press conference on November 4.
The deliberations at his residence today are being seen as significant in view of the prevailing situation within the party.
