Kohima, July 25: In a significant initiative to nurture future leaders and strengthen civil-military engagement, the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Spear Corps, organised a three-day internship programme for 13 NCC cadets from St. Xavier's College, Jalukie, Nagaland.

The immersive programme offered the cadets a firsthand insight into the life of a soldier, exposing them to the values of discipline, teamwork, resilience and leadership that define the Armed Forces. Through a carefully designed schedule of practical training sessions, physical endurance activities and interactive engagements with serving soldiers, the participants experienced the rigours and rewards of military life.
Throughout the internship, the cadets were introduced to the Armed Forces' core ethos of duty, honour, integrity and selfless service. They also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of physical fitness, mental toughness, decision-making under pressure and camaraderie—qualities that are essential for effective leadership both within and beyond the military.
Interactions with Assam Rifles personnel enabled the students to learn about operational responsibilities, military traditions and the role of the force in safeguarding national security while contributing to the development and welfare of communities in the Northeast. These engagements provided the cadets with valuable mentorship and inspired many to consider careers in the defence services.
The internship also served as an important platform for strengthening military-civil relations by fostering mutual understanding and trust between the Armed Forces and the youth. By bringing young NCC cadets closer to the realities of military service, the initiative reinforced the values of patriotism, responsibility and nation-building.
The programme concluded with the cadets expressing appreciation for the unique learning experience, describing it as an opportunity that broadened their perspectives, built confidence and instilled a renewed commitment to leadership and service to the nation.
