
Srinagar, July 19: In a strategic push to improve civic services and accelerate urban development in Srinagar, Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials from all departments of the Corporation.
The meeting focused on evaluating departmental performance and issuing clear directives to enhance service delivery, infrastructure upkeep, grievance redressal, and administrative efficiency.
Commissioner Haseeb underscored the importance of punctuality, accountability, and a citizen-centric approach across all wings of the Corporation. He stressed maintaining office discipline, ensuring timely file disposal, and fostering better internal coordination to eliminate service delays.
He directed the Urban Planning, Town Planning, and Enforcement Wings to streamline the building permission process, emphasizing transparency, adherence to building by-laws, and alignment with the city’s Master Plan.
The Commissioner called for strict action against illegal constructions and encroachments, urging proactive field monitoring to safeguard public assets and ensure planned development.
Emphasizing infrastructure improvement, he instructed expedited repair and upgrade of roads, drains, and dewatering stations, especially in flood-prone zones. Civil works must be completed on time without compromising quality, he said.
On sanitation, Haseeb directed intensified cleanliness drives, efficient garbage collection, and regular hygiene audits in all municipal wards. He also called for scaling up Animal Birth Control (ABC) operations and improving responsiveness to stray animal complaints.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of financial discipline, timely payments, and transparent procurement processes. He also advised digitization of key services such as birth and death certificates and property records, ensuring public access and streamlined workflows.
Legal departments were instructed to provide timely support, follow up diligently on court matters, and conduct pre-emptive legal vetting of key decisions.
For grievance redressal, all departments were directed to improve responsiveness through the SMC helpline, social media, and ward offices, with an escalation matrix in place to guarantee resolution within set timeframes.
He instructed the 24x7 Control Room to maintain real-time coordination with field teams, log all emergency and distress calls, and submit daily status reports to the Commissioner’s office.
Commissioner Haseeb concluded by emphasizing the need for measurable outcomes, strong inter-departmental coordination, and transparent, people-focused service delivery.
