Dras, Kargil, July 26: To commemorate 26 years of India’s historic victory in the 1999 Kargil War, MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), organized a ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Padyatra’ in Dras today.

The tribute march was led by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports & Labour and Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth. Over 3,000 youth volunteers, war veterans, serving armed forces personnel, families of martyrs, and civil society members took part in the symbolic walk.

The padyatra covered a 1.5-kilometre route from Himabass Public High School to Government Higher Secondary School, Bhimbet, featuring vibrant cultural performances that reflected the rich traditions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya said, “Kargil is not just a place in history, it is a living symbol of India’s resilience and unity.” He urged the youth to commit themselves to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and uphold the spirit of ‘Nation First’.

He also reflected on his recent visit to Sando Top, reiterating India’s policy of peace but firm response when provoked. Highlighting military milestones like Operation Vijay and Operation Sindoor, he said India’s armed forces continue to be the guardians of national sovereignty.

Union Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, praised the youth’s participation and urged them to emulate the discipline and patriotism of Kargil's brave soldiers.

After the padyatra, both ministers, along with 100 MY Bharat youth volunteers, visited the Kargil War Memorial to offer floral tributes. Dr. Mandaviya also felicitated 26 female bikers from the Shakti Udgosh Foundation who completed a rally to honour the martyrs.

A symbolic tree plantation under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign was also held, linking patriotism with environmental responsibility.

In the lead-up to the event, MY Bharat conducted essay writing, painting, elocution contests, and youth dialogues (Yuva Samvads) across villages in the region to engage youth in civic awareness and emotional connection with the armed forces.
