Reopen Coaching Classes

February 05, 2022 |

With the third wave of Covid-19 slowly dying down as ominous Omicron also waning with minimal impact, the Union Territory administration also heaved sigh of relief as it didn’t extend restrictions post Friday afternoon or weekend curfew. The dip in figures of Covid positive cases as well as few deaths in Jammu and Kashmir is reflective of receding wave. Now, the government has to take a call on education of children below 15 years as they continue to suffer due to online mode of learning. The high school and higher secondary students as instructed would attend the institutions after vaccination as they have been doing prior to winter vacation but the middle level students have bore the brunt of zero schooling for the last three years as continuous lockdowns or shutdowns pushed them to the brink in terms of studies. Delhi is a classical example of a place where Covid-19 peaked countrywide as number one spot but slowly is limping to normalcy by allowing school reopening across the spectrum. From Monday onwards, Delhi will see resumption of classes in colleges, schools and coaching classes. In Kashmir, schools, colleges and universities are having winter vacations and by February end most of the institutions during normal days would commence functioning. However, for the last three years, there have been erratic reopening and there is urgent and immediate need to resume classes at lower and middle level. The authorities could evolve a plan about observation of social distancing and covid appropriate behavior for them and coaching institutions as practiced by the rest of states or Union Territories. The vaccination drive among college and university students should continue with full vigour so that by March start, they too are allowed to join classes in their institution. Due to restrictions the students haven’t been able to manage online classes. Their education is suffering as the social development of students has come to a standstill. The administration should meanwhile allow coaching classes to commence as there is no substitute for offline coaching or teaching because the online education which a student receives in the comfort of their home is not 100 per cent fruitful and does not have a personal touch for a student to enhance their performance in a competitive exam. The authorities have to take a call as the mental health of students is taking a toll on their overall personality development. The opening will be a much-needed relief for the students who are eager to join the classes which will boost their confidence.
