
LG, CM condole loss of lives
Four soldiers were killed and two others injured when the Army truck they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Bandipora district on Saturday.
Officials said an Army truck carrying six army personnel skidded off the road near the SK Payeen area at around 3 pm along the Srinagar Bandipora highway and fell into a deep gorge.
The vehicle was on its way to Bandipora from Manasbal.
“Six injured soldiers were taken to a local hospital where three of them were declared brought dead. Another jawan succumbed to injuries later,” they said.
The two injured soldiers were shifted to Army hospital in Badamibagh Cantonment in Srinagar for specialised treatment.
The Army while confirming the death of four soldiers in the accident, said the vehicle skidded and fell into the gorge due to inclement weather and poor visibility conditions.
“The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical care with assistance from Kashmiri locals, for which they expressed gratitude towards the citizens in providing immediate succour,”it said.
This is the second tragic accident in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two weeks when the Army suffered casualties.
On December 25, five soldiers died and five others sustained critical injuries after their vehicle skidded off the road along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha condoled the loss of lives of Army personnel due to tragic road accident in Bandipora.
In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor said. “Deeply grieved by the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel due to a tragic road accident in Bandipora. The nation is deeply grateful for their service and commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured”.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic death of army soldiers in the Bandipora accident.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, offering his prayers for strength and solace during this difficult time.
He also prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to the soldiers injured in the accident.
