The Cooperative Department on Monday organised a mega function to wrap up the week long celebrations of 70th All India Cooperative Week at SKICC, Srinagar.
The mega programme was attended by Registrar Cooperative Department, J&K, Mohammad Akbar Wani; Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad; Director Agriculture, Director Industries, Director Animal Husbandry, Director Command Area Development, Joint Director Horticulture, Deputy Registrars, Assistant Registrars, Representatives of Cooperative Societies, officers and officials of the department.
Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar Cooperative Department highlighted the importance of the department in ensuring the utilization of local talent and produce for providing employment to the people.
He underlined that compassionate behavior, unity and right decision making is imperative for the progress of cooperative societies.
The Registrar appreciated the officers and officials and members of societies for reviving the department and channelizing the potential of youth to transform their livelihood by earning through sustainable avenues of employment.
Meanwhile, he maintained that the cooperative department is intervening in the establishment of CSC centers and Jan Aushadhi Centres and is fostering cooperation with every department. Besides, he said that in the educational sector, the department has introduced Smart Classes and Science labs in cooperative schools.
The Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies, Kashmir said that the Cooperative department creates a relation between the producer and consumer by providing the best and convenient interface where the interests of both are protected and served in a better way by removing the intermediaries and middlemen.
He said the Cooperative department creates a buffer zone to maintain equilibrium in the market prices and to control the monopoly of few over the consumer goods. He enjoined upon officers to encourage the people to come forward to benefit from the fruitful guidance of the department.
He said that the department has diversified its approach by investing in different sectors.
Several Deputy Registrars also highlighted the pivotal role of the department in empowering the weaker sections of the society.
On the occasion, the members of different societies including Milk Producers Cooperative Limited, Bat Manufacturing Unit besides societies of Pashmina, Wicker, Honey, Mushroom and Pottery units, shared about the support received from the department in establishing their societies and helping them to earn good income.
To steer the department to new heights of progress to fulfilling its objectives, the department displayed an array of videos showcasing the infrastructure interventions in districts, multifaceted Super Bazars, service centers, and testimonials of beneficiaries.
