It has been the most common and frequently asked question in physics and astronomy: Are we really alone in this entire universe? Are humans the only intelligent species in the entire cosmos? Do aliens really exist? Is there something beyond our reach and imagination?

Well this question has been in discussion for a very long time. The first speculation about what we would call “aliens” goes back to the atomist speculations popular among Epicurean philosophers in ancient Greece and their Roman disciples. Ever since then it has been one of the most common questions in science and cosmos. Many conspiracy theories have also originated related to the mentioned topic. The entirety of the universe is infinite and so are the possibilities of the existence of extraterrestrial beings. According to NASA, there are billions of stars and trillions of planets in the Milky Way galaxy alone. NASA has discovered many planets in the cosmos that can possibly be suitable for the survival of a carbon based being. But all of these planets lack the proper location. Most of these planets are located outside Goldilocks’ zone. After all these discoveries humans have still failed to detect an alien species but the search still continues…
The possibility of the existence of aliens arises from the concept of the universe being infinite or possibly the existence of multiverse or parallel universes. It also originates from the old existence of our universe, since; it is approximately 13.7 billion years old. The universe is endless, therefore, there are an infinite number of planets, galaxies, stars and even black holes. The fact that we are all alone in this infinite entirety seems both threatening and confusing. And in the same way the existence of aliens also seems threatening. There can be multiple possible reasons due to which humans have never made contact with any form of extraterrestrial life. There have been multiple theories but among them a few have popularity among the common folk. I mean to mention a few. One of such theories is that the alien life living in the other part of the universe is a very a advanced life form who have gained access to many energy sources and are able to harness their energy and they don’t have enough time to visit a planet with a primitive life form that cannot completely harness the energy of its own planet. Another popular theory is that most of the alien life in the entire universe has come across a devastating apocalypse that destroyed their entire races and humans are the next in line. As a believer of Islam myself, I do believe in the Doom’s Day or also known as the Day of Judgment during which all the life forms from this universe will be eradicated. So, this theory also has a potential to be true. Another famous theory is that the aliens have already visited earth in the ancient period and have left earth to explore other parts of the universe. According to this theory, it also seems that they might not visit earth for a very long period of time because it takes light years to travel throughout the universe. Their visit might also explain the construction of the Great Pyramids of Giza which seems to be mysterious due to their geographical, geometrical and astronomical accuracy. According to various astronomers and scientists, the three pyramids represent the three stars in the belt of Orion, the Sphinx corresponds to the constellation Leo, and the Nile corresponds to the Milky Way. This seems pretty advanced for a human of the ancient Egyptian era and might be a work of a different and highly advanced species. Another famous theory is that humans are searching for extraterrestrial life by wrong means. Astronomers and scientists search for life throughout the universe by searching for the suitable conditions of survival such as water, oxygen, and presence in the goldilocks’ zone . But what if the alien species don’t require such conditions for survival? And what if they are not carbon based.
There have been multiple speculations regarding this topic and Islam also has say in it. The holy Quran, perhaps, alludes to the existence of alien life multiple times. In surah we read every single day- Surah Al-Fatiha, Allah (SWT) says:
“All praise is for Allah –lord of all worlds”
Allah emphasizes that He is the Lord of all worlds, perhaps referring to worlds as in planets, universes, or dimensions. ‘Aalam’ – the word used for worlds here – can refer to an entire world or an entire people. Classical scholars obviously understood ‘aalam’ to mean people, animals, jinn, angels etc, but Allah is, from the very beginning, saying here that we are not alone.
There have been multiple speculations in the Quran besides this one but this is the one that I wanted to mention because it kind of emphasizes on the matter and leaves us ambiguous to interpret (not that we can conclude whatever we want but as much as a human can think staying in the line of faith and taqwa).
