“Shaurya Diwas”- the first military victory of the Indian Army was celebrated here. The Shaurya Diwas was celebrated at Budgam Military Garrison to commemorate the gallant actions and the first military victory of Independent India when the Indian Army troops landed at Srinagar to thwart the evil designs of the Pakistan Army of invading Kashmir Valley on October 27 1947, a defence spokesman said.On this day, the troops were airlifted to Srinagar to secure the airfield and give further momentum to the operations against Pakistan.
He said to mark the auspicious occasion and honour the martyrs of this epic battle, Chinar Corps Cdr and other military and civil dignitaries laid wreath at Budgam War Memorial.
The ceremony was also attended by a large number of veterans, NCC Cadets and serving troops.
The event was organised under the aegis of Victor Force and was also attended by GOC Victor Force.
A mega Infantry weapon and equipment display was also organised under the aegis of Victor Force on the occasion of “Shaurya Diwas” at Budgam.
New generation weapons and equipment were showcased and spectators were briefed about the utility of the equipment while undertaking various types of operations.
Chinar Corps Commander also interacted with veterans and enquired about their well-being. The General Officer also interacted with troops as well as NCC Cadets and appreciated their valuable contribution in nation building.
