Muharram is the first month of Islamic calendar. It is the victory of blood over the sword. In fact it happened so that the blood was victorious over the sword. Indeed, it is crystal clear from the islamic annals of history that battle of Karbala changed the page of Islam and paved the way for the betterment of spending good life towards the perfect path of Allah rather than bowing before tyrant regime of world. Ashura is the name of the 10th day of muharram wherein the grandson of holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with his pure companions were mercilessly martyred in the scorching sand of Karbala which is in Iraq in 681AD by the cruel hands of Yazeed, the then king of Damascus. Now, the question arises here why Ashura occurred and what was the main cause behind this battle?

In vivid words the first and the foremost cause behind this battle was the rejection of allegiance of Imam Hussain (AS) which the wicked Yazid demanded from Hussain (AS), however it was utterly rejected by the immaculate imam that became the main reason of above-mentioned event. In other words the wicked Yazid, the grandson of Abu Sufyan asked the grandson of holy prophet to accept his allegiance as a caliphate of whole Muslim ummah. It is also narrated in traditions that Marwan, the then governor of Medina, said to imam Hussain that why he didn’t pay his allegiance to Yazid. Let you pay allegiance!. Don’t put yourself in trouble and perdition. In his reply, the Exalted Imam said to Marwan.’’ We belong to Allah and unto Him we are returning”. One should bid farewell to Islam when the Ummah is afflicted with such a ruler as Yazeed.
It is widely acknowledged that the battle of Karbala was between righteousness and wickedness; between humanity and inhumanity ; battle between morality and immorality; battle between right and wrong and it is undoubtedly fact that the objective and goal of Imam Hussain (AS) was restoration of justice, truth and establishment of divine religion and to curb the oppression and suppression of cruel Yazid which he wanted to establish. That is why the exalted Imam made an uprising in order to remove the corrupt regimes from the scene, which are not only detrimental to the religion but also societies and entire human beings for which infallible Imam laid supreme sacrifice and paved the way for the establishment of system based on Islamic divine and human values. Although infallible Imam experienced copious oppression as well as calamities by the side of Yazid, still He became the greatest courageous and brave personality in the Islamic history who dauntlessly and courageously confronted the wickedness. It is the power of Ashura that gives a lesson that one needn’t come under threat by the hallow pomp as Karbala symbolizes struggle against injustice, non violent, resistance, with grace and supreme determination. That is why the event of Ashura is an everlasting example for everyone.
It is also pertinent to mention over here that the tragic event of Ashur makes us learn how to resist falsehood and stand against injustice, oppression and atrocity of any regime. It is also fact that if infallible Imam hadn’t made sacrifice for the extermination of wickedness and falsehood then humanity as well as truthfulness would have been suppressed by the wicked Yazid through his noxious ruling over Muslim ummah. Therefore it is widely stated even by the non Muslims that the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) was the greatest attempt to emancipate the humanity from ignorance and deviation and became the most ideal personality for the needs people of the world. So, it is high stated that the event of Hussain-ibn-Ali in fact has been motivating force for Islamic Ummah to adopt a right Islamic course and direction.
Every freedom-loving person and crusader who intended to accept the risk of challenges, and while getting himself energized by the event of Ashura, has taken it as a moral and spiritual support and a basis for himself like Nelson Mandela and Gandhi scrutinized the Ashura and acted upon it in getting the nation emancipated from the shackles of tyrant regime that points out that Hussain isn’t confined to Muslim community but rather whole human creature as well as the event of karbala hasn’t remained confined to a small patch of land or a region instead its domain is extended to the widespread field of life of the human beings. The Karbala exists everywhere i.e art and culture, tradition and ideology even in the hearts of those who don’t bow before the God Still lower their heads before the grace and honor of Husain ibn Ali a.s. It is Hussain who is shining like the bright sun with its full illumination over the entire world of existence and as its secret places that we aren’t familiar with. Imam Hussain taught us that lagging behind against the self-imposed enemy is a sign of humiliation and embarrassment.
In concise words the event of Hussain-ibn-Ali wasn’t only for the freedom of any particular nation or community but emancipation for the entire history as well. Imam Husain (AS) his loin hearted sister, Bibi Zainab and his companions, and devotees emancipated the entire history by this movement. As infallible Imam vividly declared it “indeed, I haven’t risen to do mischief, neither as an adventure, nor to cause corruption and tyranny, nor risen for vanity and haughtiness or pride or gaining any power or fulfilling my desire.” I have risen up solely to seek the reform of the Ummah of my grandfather as I am witnessing that the situation of the Ummah of the holy Prophet has entirely changed. It is heading towards wrong, downfall and degradation. It is contrary to the shown path of Islam and the Noble Prophet for which I have made an uprising against all these things.
