
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, organized an awareness programme on the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) Act at the ADR Centre, District Court Complex Srinagar.
The objective of the awareness programme was to sensitize the stakeholders, especially staff, legal professionals, and para legal volunteers, about the core aspects of the POSH Act, including preventive measures, complaint redressal mechanism, and the importance of a safe and inclusive workplace.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
The event was graced by Massarat Jabeen (PT&E Magistrate Srinagar) Presiding Officer of the POSH Committee, and was attended by the members of the POSH Committee, staff members, Legal Aid Defense Counsels, and Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Srinagar.
Massarat Jabeen, in her address, emphasized the significance of understanding and implementing the POSH Act at every institutional level. She elaborated on the legal provisions, mechanisms for redressal, and the responsibilities of employers and committee members in ensuring compliance with the Act.
She underscored the necessity of fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes dignity, respect, and zero tolerance toward harassment. Her speech inspired the participants to take a proactive stance in spreading awareness and ensuring effective implementation of the Act within their respective spheres of influence.
Sub-Judge/Secretary DLSA Srinagar, emphasized the participants about the importance of creating safe and secure work environments, particularly for women, and the role of the legal services authority in facilitating such awareness.
As part of the initiative, NALSA handbooks on the POSH Act were distributed among the participants. These handbooks serve as a vital resource for understanding the legal framework and practical implementation of the Act, enabling individuals to act as informed advocates for safer work environments.
The session proved to be informative and interactive, contributing meaningfully to the overall goal of empowering participants with the knowledge required to identify, address, and prevent sexual harassment at the workplace.
