A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed after Pakistani troops breached border ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF outposts along the International Border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
It was the first major ceasefire violation of the border ceasefire since February 24, 2021.
A BSF official said Pakistani Rangers violated the border ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate firing on BSF outposts during intervening night of November 8-9 in Ramgarh sector of Samba.
In the Pakistani troops firing, BSF Head Constable Lal Fam Kima sustained critical bullet injuries. He was evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
The deceased BSF jawan hails from Aizawl, Mizoram and is survived by wife and three children.
DG BSF Nitin Agrawal said Pakistani troops attacked our posts two-three times and targeted the border guards.
“But, our forces are alert and have retaliated very well. There is perhaps severe damage on that side, but it is not confirmed yet,” he said.
The cross-border firing has caused panic among the border residents, who say they are scared to go to their fields near the border.
This is the third ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in less than a month
