
As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a Tiranga Rally and an Anti-Drug Awareness Rally at Tulmulla campus here on Tuesday.
In the Tiranga Rally, organised by the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS), the participants waved the tricolour and marched through the campus and adjoining areas. Faculty members, administrative staff, and students joined in large numbers, symbolising unity, and the ideals enshrined in the Constitution. Aimed at fostering patriotism and national pride by encouraging citizens to hoist the Indian flag at their homes and institutions, the rally echoed patriotic fervour and reinforced the message of collective responsibility towards nation-building.
The Anti-Drug Awareness Rally was organised by the DSW, Health Centre, and NSS units of the university. The walkathon, held under the theme “Azadi from Drugs”, commenced from the Tulmulla campus and saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. Carrying banners and placards, the participants raised slogans to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, underscoring the urgent need to eradicate this menace for a healthier and stronger nation. The rally was supported by J&K Police, Ganderbal.
Dean DSW, Prof. Irfan Aalam, Asst Prof. Deptt of Law, Dr. Mudasir Bhat, NSS coordinator Dr. Shabir Ahmad, Medical Officer Dr Sheeba Nazir and Medical Attendant Mr Javid Ali led the rally.
The university officials highlighted the significance of linking social causes like drug prevention with national celebrations, noting that true freedom can only be enjoyed in a society free from addiction and social evils.
Meanwhile, the DSW organized a plantation drive at the science campus, Nuner. Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, Dean, School of Life Sciences, and Prof. Mohammad Yousuf, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, along with the Youth Welfare Officer and his team participated. The participants planted saplings and called for sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and a healthier future.
