Srinagar, August 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief DGP Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, on Friday visited rural areas of Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam to review the security situation and assess the functioning of the ground-level security grid ahead of Independence Day.

During the visit, the senior officers reviewed security arrangements across the three South Kashmir districts and assessed deployments, surveillance mechanisms and measures in place to monitor vulnerable areas.

The visit comes amid heightened security concerns in South Kashmir following recent incidents, including the killing of a J&K Police head constable in Anantnag on July 22 and the shooting of two migrant workers in Kulgam on July 31. Both workers later succumbed to their injuries.

Following the incidents, security forces intensified operations across South Kashmir, with additional checkpoints, searches and surveillance measures introduced in several areas.

The DGP's field visit focused on evaluating the effectiveness of the existing security grid and the preparedness of police units to respond swiftly to any emerging threat.

The officers also reviewed surveillance arrangements in rural and vulnerable areas and assessed coordination among different police formations operating across the three districts.

The security review comes a day ahead of Independence Day, as authorities have strengthened arrangements around key installations, public gatherings and other sensitive locations across Jammu and Kashmir.

Police and security agencies are maintaining a heightened presence across South Kashmir to prevent any attempt to disrupt Independence Day events and ensure the safety of civilians.
