
A comprehensive legal awareness programme was today organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, to observe International Legal Literacy Day, at Government S.P Higher Secondary School, Srinagar.
The initiative was aimed at sensitizing students about their legal rights and the importance of understanding the law, thereby promoting awareness and empowering the youth with crucial legal knowledge.
The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and held under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
During the session, Zeenat Nazir, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), delivered an insightful presentation on important legal issues such as Child Custody and Guardianship, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and Drug Abuse.
She elaborated on the legal framework that governs child custody and guardianship disputes, the provisions and procedures under the POCSO Act aimed at safeguarding children against sexual offences, and the laws relating to the prevention of drug abuse and its social consequences.
Her session provided the students with a detailed understanding of their rights and the legal measures in place to protect vulnerable individuals.
Additionally, Sehar Nazir, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, addressed the audience on the broader topic of International Legal Literacy Day. She highlighted the significance of knowing one’s legal rights and responsibilities as an informed citizen and emphasized the role of law in promoting justice, equality, and social welfare.
