Even though women are at the helm of life and have equal liberties with men in every sphere of life, there is a sense of hatred towards them. Despite holding prestigious positions in government ministries, academic institutions, professional associations, the defense group, and so on, they are victims of many oppression and exploitation in society. When discussing evil practices, the first thing to remember is that they have evolved from society. The same society that we are a part of Dowry has become a major social evil against women, expanding as quickly as a pandemic in society. We hear and read about one or more young women being burned to death because they did not have enough dowry.

There appears to be no end to the practice of torturing young brides who fail to bring dowry and are forced to commit suicide. Parents were afraid that if they did not pay a large dowry in their daughter's marriage, their daughter would be beaten and harassed and sent back to their parents' house. Although there is nothing in our religion that supports this practice, the majority of people blindly follow it. There are no religious obligations, but there is a tradition of giving gifts to your daughter, which is dependent on the parents' financial situation. To some extent, I believe the rich people are to blame because it is more of a competition for them, and they feel compelled to brag. Many parents who are unable to afford expensive gifts for their daughters end up taking out loans to fulfill the groom's and his family's wishes. When I learn that dowry rates are set for boys who are doctors, engineers, or bankers, at that time I feel disgusted. The girl's achievements in life are worthless.
Unfortunately, no matter how beautiful or educated a woman is, if she is unable to produce a significant dowry, she would be bluntly rejected. It's important to recognize that it isn't just about rejection it's about the ramifications of these rejections, which can contribute to mental illness, trauma, soul, and even suicide risk. Dowry has also become a major source of post-marital conflict. When the agreed-upon dowry amount is not paid or is only partially paid and partly promised, the marriage is sometimes solemnized and even consummated. When the bride's family is unable to fulfill the dowry promise due to poverty, the marital home becomes a battleground, pitting the bridegroom's entire family against her.
Further, the bride is verbally abused in a vituperative language, assaulted or violently beaten by her husband for no reason, and in extreme cases, the bride is brutally murdered or set ablaze with petrol or kerosene. Even if she is pregnant or the mother of a child, the bride is still not deductible.The bride is mostly pushed back to her parents' house because she is unable to meet the dowry expectations of the marital family. The list of dowry demands from the bride's families is never-ending, and it becomes a responsibility for them to satisfy not just in the middle and upper middle classes but also in the poorer sections of society.When a girl infant is born into a family, all of the family members' faces collapse. Their smiles vanish completely from their faces. They appear to have entered the ellipse of sorrows and pains.
Even the child's mother wears a glum expression and is frequently the target of insults and caustic remarks from her in-laws. Do you have any idea why this happens? It's due to the dowry system that exists in our culture. The image of dowry with the demand for a large sum of money in cash or kind flashes before a female child's eyes the moment she is born. People have now gone a step farther in order to prevent this unsatisfactory condition. The Kashmir valley, once regarded to be devoid of violence against women, has suddenly become a hotspot of the phenomenon. Dowry, a widespread social ill, drives many families further into poverty and is one of the leading causes of violence against women. They noted that education, economic development for women, equal property rights for women, and societal awareness may all aid in the abolition of the dowry system. It is now undeniable that dowry is inextricably related to women's poverty. Women are more susceptible when they are poor.
They continue to live in deplorable conditions as dependents. The transfer of wealth in the form of dowry turns women into commodities in some ways. The key to eliminating dowry is women's empowerment. Impose rigorous laws and penalties for dowry-related offenses. Treat dowry as a societal ill and a major taboo subject. Road shows, plays, seminars, and social media raise public awareness about the negative repercussions of the dowry system on our society. Your girls should be loved, respected, and educated. Encourage your girls to start their businesses to help them become more self-reliant, confident, and responsible. Prepare a local Anti-Dowry Team to keep a watch on all wedding programs and report any dowry-related occurrences in secret. Put anti-dowry slogans, phrases, posters, and other sanctions in wedding rooms to remind people of the dangers of dowry. If given the chance, women can succeed in a variety of industries. In nutshell, I believe that education is critical to eradicating the dowry system.
Girls who are educated can be self-sufficient, and early marriage and post-marriage mistreatment by their husbands can be avoided. Education, in my opinion, is the finest dowry a father can give their daughters. To summarise, abolishing the dowry system not only eradicates a terrible institution from our cultures but also helps to alleviate poverty. The finest dowry is the best education. Parents are recommended to provide their daughters the greatest education possible, as times have changed and it is now time for education to have greater value in the labor market, as well as new opportunities for women to become entrepreneurs.
