
Jammu and Kashmir Police Friday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance and cash from his possession in Srinagar.
A police officer said that a checkpoint established near Zindshah Masjid, Rainawari and arrested a person who was driving a car bearing registration number JK01L-6924.
The police official identified the arrestee as Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Andurni Kathidarwaza A/P Shungli Pora Srinagar.
He said that the police was able to recover 140 grams of Charas and cash amount of Rs. 13,300 from his possession.
“He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” police official said.
He said that a case vide FIR number 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Rainawari and further investigation has been initiated.
The police officer requested the community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
“Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” the police official said.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police’s consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings.
