Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championship concludes

The closing ceremony of Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championships was held at Sher-E-Kashmir Indoor Complex, Srinagar here today. The event was organized by J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd) under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) in the Memory of late Janab Farooq Ahmed (Senior Taekwondo Coach, JKTA).
The Championship was open for all and it observed a massive participation of young athletes. Players across different schools and clubs from the UT participated. The Championship was held under the emblem of My Youth My Pride and there was no entry fee in the above said event. More than 700 players took part from various schools and clubs. The medalists of the event will have a chance to represent J&K, UT in the upcoming LG Cup All India Club’s Taekwondo Championships.
2nd Day of the Championships was Opened by Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, IAS (Administrative Secretary of Tribal Affairs Department and Chief Executive Officer, J&K Mission Youth, Mission Director, Skill Development Mission, Jammu & Kashmir). Farooq Ahmed Wani (Chief Editor, Beighter Kashmir), Senior Advocate Neelofer Masood (Jt Secretary,JKTA & President Distt Baramulla) was presented as a Guest of Honour. Shri Love (Commanding Officer, 125 Batttalion), Shafaat Guffar Mir (Advisor to Mayor), Younis Ali Matto (Chairman Hope Trust & helping Society) were present there as a Special Guest.
In the Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution Function Miss Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council was Chief Guest and Distributed Medals and Trophies to the Winners.
Miss Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council, while speaking on the occasion, assured full support to the J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd) from the JKSC in future events.
Dr. Zaffar Iqbal Chowdhury, JKAS (Chief Account Officer, JKSC), Riaz Shiekh (Administrative Officer), Dr Surjeet Singh (Astt Proffesor, Department of physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir), Sheikh Adil (Gym Coach, Department of physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir), Ms Surjeet Kour (Activity Incharge, Department of physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir), Mr Irshad Hussain, Section Officer, Department of physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir), Maqsood Ahmed Khan, Manager Indoor Complex, SKISC were Present there as a Guest of Honour.
Nishan Singh Jamwal (AAO, JKSC), Gautam Shukla, Sahil Chopra were also present in the event.
The Championships was headed by Shri Nissar Hussain (Vice President, JKTA) with support of Burhan Khan, Anees Bhat, Rohit Sharma, Faisal , Tanvir and Zain Nazir.
The Technical team, who displayed the fair play decisions throughout the Championship, was led by Atul Pangotra (International Referee, WT). In the referee panel, Vinod Garewal, Shanaz Parveen, Farooq Ahmed Malik, Tanveer Ahmed Ganie, Suhail Ahmed Khan, Hashim Majeed, Shah Faiq, Aqib Gulzar, Adeeba Khursheed, Kushagra Sharma, Humaira Manzoor, Shah Faisal, Faizan Ahmed Butt, Musadiq Qayoom, Dushyant Kapta, Kartik Sharma and Tabin Muzafar, Soham Sharma, Achutam Dev Singh, Rudhra Pratap Singh.
Mr. Burhan Ud Din Khan, NIS Taekwondo Coach and Referee supervised the event as the Technical Director, who was appointed by J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd).
The event which featured players across different sections of the society, including Orphan and Para athletes was held under the aegis of World Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation Program. In the Supporting Panel for the smooth conduct of above said event are Musadiq Qayoom, Danish, Adnan Adhfar, Ishan Parihar, Azad Beig and Farhan.
While speaking to Technical Director of JKTA Shri Atul Pangotra (International Taekwondo Medalist/ Int'l Coach / Int'l Referee). He said we are very committed to create an Olympic level of atmosphere here at Jammu and Kashmir and we surely will organize and participate events that will only aim at promoting the athletes of Jammu and Kashmir across the India for various National and International championships.
Atul Pangotra (TD, JKTA) presented a vote of thanks to all the esteemed Guests, Coaches and Participants on behalf of J&K Taekwondo Association.
