KU’s Linguistics Department holds special lecture on research ethics

The Department of Linguistics, University of Kashmir (KU), organised a special lecture on ‘Research Ethics’ at the Main Campus.

The lecture aimed to sensitise students and scholars to ethical principles in research, including issues of plagiarism, data integrity, authorship, and responsible academic conduct in an increasingly digitised research environment.

Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message said, “Ethical awareness is central to meaningful research. Scholars must uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in their work, especially at a time when access to information is vast and immediate.”

Dean, School of Arts, Languages and Literature KU, Prof. Aejaz Mohammad Sheikh, emphasised the importance of cultivating ethical research practices among students and noted that such lectures play a crucial role in guiding young scholars towards responsible academic engagement.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Vaishna Narang, former Professor of Linguistics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, who discussed key aspects of research ethics, including plagiarism, proper citation practices, and the importance of maintaining originality in academic work. She also emphasized the need for critical engagement with sources, along with the responsible use of research tools and methodologies in contemporary academic practice.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Head, Department of Linguistics, KU, Prof. Musavir Ahmad, noted the importance of such academic interactions in strengthening research culture and encouraging ethical awareness among students and scholars.

The lecture was attended by students and research scholars from the School of Arts, Languages and Literature at the Main Campus.
