Probe launched into security lapse at Jammu's high-security
The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have seized over dozen mobile phones and SIM cards from inmates of the high-security Kot Bhalwal jail.
A senior police officer said the seizures were made during a surprise search operation of the central jail in Jammu region on Thursday afternoon.
“A joint team of police and CID wing raided the jail premises on Thursday morning. We had specific inputs that mobile phones were being used by terrorists lodged in the jail,” the officer said.
He said at least dozen mobile phones and SIM cards have been seized during the raids.
Some more items have been recovered as well, reports said. However it was not clear what those other “items” are.
The officer said the joint team is conducting searches and questioning some of the inmates and jail staff about how mobiles and SIM cards managed to get into the high security prison complex.
“It looks like a conspiracy to foment trouble inside and outside the jail. We have registered a case and investigations are underway,” the officer said.
