The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has made significant strides in upgrading a crucial section of National Highway 244 (NH-244) in Jammu & Kashmir.
The project involves expanding the road to a two-lane highway with paved shoulders, covering the stretch from Km 67 (end of Km 83rd tunnel) to Km 80 (start of Kishtwar Bypass), under NH(O) Package-3.
This segment of the Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Goha-Khellani-Kishtwar-Vailoo-Donipawa-Ashajipora section serves as a vital link for connecting key areas, enhancing local connectivity, and driving economic growth.
An NHIDCL official emphasized the project’s importance, stating, "We are committed to building world-class infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir.
This upgrade will improve road safety and contribute to the region’s socio-economic development."
As per the reports once completed, the road will significantly reduce travel time and improve access to Kishtwar and surrounding areas, stimulating tourism and local trade.
The project is also of strategic significance due to its proximity to sensitive areas, with local leaders hailing it as a major step towards development. "This road upgrade isn’t just about better transport; it’s about creating opportunities and improving lives," said a local politician.
