NIT Srinagar organises joint run on National Unity Day and Vigilance Awareness Week

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Friday organized a Joint Run for Unity to commemorate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) and to observe Vigilance Awareness Week 2025, which is being celebrated across the country to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability in public life.

The event, held to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, aimed to reaffirm the values of national integration, unity, and ethical responsibility among students and staff.

The program began with the Ekta Diwas Pledge, reaffirming participants’ commitment to the unity and integrity of the nation.

The pledge was administered in the presence of Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir (Director In-charge, NIT Srinagar), Prof. Atikur Rehman (Registrar), and Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger (Chief Vigilance Officer and Dean Faculty Welfare), Dr. Ashok Kumar (Nodal Officer, EBSB Cell), Dr. Pramod Yadav (Nodal Officer, NSS Unit), and faculty coordinators Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Hareesh Myneni, Dr. Nitika Kunadan, and Dr. Janani L.

The program was also attended by AR (Administration) Mubashir Ahmad Wani, AR (Academics) Mohammad Iqbal Dar, AR (Accounts)Shahid Hamid Najar, SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir, and other staff members from the college.

Following the pledge, the Run for Unity was flagged off at 10:00 AM from the Fountain Park, covering a designated track within the campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff.

The run was jointly organized by the Office of the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Cell, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of NIT Srinagar as part of the institute’s initiatives under Vigilance Awareness Week 2025.

Separate races were held for boys, girls, and faculty/staff members. In the boys’ category, Mohammad Yasir Mir secured the first position, followed by Himanshu and Bharat.

In the girls’ category, Jeau Mishr bagged the first position, followed by Projokta Bodhat (second) and Anjali Rajput (third).

In the teaching and non-teaching staff category, Naresh Kumar stood first, followed by Dr. Atendra Kumar and Dr. Farhad Ilahi Bakhsh.

All participants received certificates, while winners received mementos and certificates presented by the Director, Registrar, and the faculty coordinators.

In her address, Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, Director-in-Charge, lauded the joint efforts of the CVO Office, EBSB Cell, and NSS Unit for organizing the event.

She emphasized that the message of unity, integrity, and ethical conduct is central to both National Unity Day and Vigilance Awareness Week.

She urged students and staff to uphold honesty, responsibility, and nation-building ideals in their personal and professional lives.

The event concluded with a collective message of harmony, solidarity, and commitment to building a stronger, transparent, and united India.

The initiative received widespread appreciation from all participants for raising awareness of a critical health issue affecting millions of women globally.
