Rescuing Koshur in Kashmir

July 09, 2023 | Dr syed Ubaid

Endemic is not appropriate word for our mother tongue now . The way it’s shades are fading. From the early childhood period our great grands used to conversate in Kashmiri . The days are gone when mothers used to hold their babies in lap and sing Kashmiri couplets for soulful sleep.

I hardly think Kashmiri language will survive for more 10 or 20 years .
In past the teachers were very much interested to make concepts clear in Kashmiri language, I remember my middle school days , we never got classes in other language ,because the scenario and the understanding of concepts were more clear in our mother tongue . Kashmiri is still taught in the schools .
It’s still being highlighted in bolded words , scholars of Kashmiri are struggling to spread and protect from fading, It’s the language which represents the society .
The experience from hospitals to public places . From schools to colleges .From homes to hostels.
From parks to peaks the parents are now interested to make their wards to conversate in another languages . It’s said the seed u sow ,so shall we reap .
The condition is so worse that an incident took place with me ,we were doing a treatment procedure, and there is something we say patients to speak these words, as in our Kashmir the old age people only know Kashmiri language,
So, my colleague has to taught patient say words like akh (means 1),za(means 2) and so on ….
My colleague was not able to say ,and she called me to make patient to say these words on this I feel pity on our society that totally the mother tongue is vanished.
It's absolutely not wrong to know and conversate in other languages but u are losing ur mother tongue is the very pity on us .
There is a guy from Kashmir who has made very big role in making it possible to give heights to Kashmiri language, and he made it up to world records.
There is little concept in Kashmir that only girls use Urdu language whenever they have to dialogue. And I personally met incidents if they don’t know my h about that language, they will still use instead of using their mother tongue.
Astonished by the way these young generations have found affection towards other languages. The Kashmiri old songs are now remixed in the name of making money.
But losing the real tone of language is every time there in real Kashmiri society.
Yes you go anywhere in world, u learn more , you participate in foreign but never loose your heritage, never lose your mother tongue.
Give credits to those people who are making the language remain live in society .and it is very needful that school syllabus took it serious to teach and conversate in own language.
And dear parents make your children lovable towards Kashmiri heritage, once these buds make it beloved then our heritage.
