Kupwara, August 6: A 25-year-old shepherd lost his life after being struck by lightning in the remote Gugerdoor area of Keran in north Kashmir's Kupwara district during the intervening night, officials said on Thursday.

The deceased, a resident of Sangdan Patti in Warsun, was grazing and camping with his flock in the high-altitude pastures when the lightning strike occurred.

Officials said the body was recovered from the site and taken to Police Station Keran, where the required legal formalities were being completed.

Police have registered the case and initiated further proceedings to ascertain all aspects of the incident.
