
To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District Administration Srinagar today organized an awareness programme at Government College of Education here today.
Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo was the Chief Guest of the programme aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and deterrent measures undertaken against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on effective awareness generation against drug abuse to sensitize people particularly the youth about its detrimental impact on individuals, families and society. He called for a compassionate and coordinated approach involving deterrence, rehabilitation, and sustained awareness campaign.
The DC emphasized the need to address drug abuse at the grassroots level, advocating for a compassionate approach in dealing with those affected from addiction.
During the seminar, elaborate discussion on the NDPS Act and its enforcement in curbing illicit trafficking, importance of early identification and timely recovery interventions in combating substance abuse was emphasised.
Later, the DC felicitated the meritorious students for their outstanding contributions in anti drugs awareness campaign.
The initiative was the part of ongoing Drugs Free Jammu and Kashmir campaign reaffirming the collective commitment to “Say No to Drugs” and to work together towards a healthier, happier and drug-free society.
