Locals, doctors, paramedical staff saved precious lives of soldiers after Shopian accident: Lt Gen D P Pandey

General Officer Commanding (GoC) Chinar Corps Lieutenant General D P Pandey on Wednesday said “terrorist activities have sharply come down and terrorism has been flattened in south Kashmir”.
“Terrorist activities have sharply come down and terrorism has fallen in south Kashmir and security forces have saved the life and property of the people," Lieutenant General Pandey told reporters here.
He said a few days back an accident took place during the anti-militancy operation at Shopian in which soldiers were injured who were evacuated by the local people as the army personnel were not present there and shifted them to hospital for treatment.
Lieutenant General Pandey visited District Hospital Shopian to thank doctors for the treatment of the soldiers who were brought to the hospital after a deadly road accident.
Three soldiers were killed after the Sumo they were traveling in met with an accident at Kanipora village of Shopian.
The vehicle was en route to the Budigam encounter site on April 14 last week. The slain soldiers were identified as Subedar Om, Havildar Ramautar and Sepahi Pawan Singh.
“After the accident, it was local people of Shopian that evacuated soldiers to the hospital. No police and army were present there,” he said, adding that the army is grateful to locals of Shopian.
He said doctors at district hospital Shopain took great care of the injured soldiers and the army is also thankful to them.
“I am thankful to the doctors and paramedical staff that provided best health care to the injured jawans and saved their lives”, Lieutenant General Pandey said.
“I often say that to take a life is very easy but to save a life is very difficult”, he said and added “I had come here to thank all the staff, doctors and the brave civilians of the Shopian people who played a commendable role in shifting the injured jawans to hospital”.
