
In a pioneering initiative towards women’s empowerment, the Indian Army on Saturday held the inaugural Women’s Cricket Uri Premier League in the border town.
The Army in a statement issued here said that this ground-breaking event is poised to transcend boundaries, fostering a spirit of inclusion, skill development, and empowerment among the talented girls of Uri.
The league was inaugurated by the Deputy Commander, Kalapahar Brigade in front of a huge local crowd of Uri which came in support of the event.
The event started with Team 360, Uri playing against Government Degree College Uri.
“The Uri Premier League is not just a cricket tournament; it’s a testament to the commitment of the Indian Army towards empowering women and providing them with a platform to showcase their athletic prowess. With six dynamic teams competing, the league promises fierce competition, sportsmanship, and an electrifying celebration of talent,” the statement reads.
The statement adds that the league aims to break stereotypes and transcend societal norms, encouraging girls from diverse backgrounds to come forward and embrace the joy of cricket.
“The six teams represent the unity and diversity inherent in the region, creating an environment where talent knows no gender. In collaboration with local communities, the league seeks to engage, inspire, and support aspiring female cricketers in Uri, fostering a culture of inclusivity and equal opportunities,” it reads.
“The initiative aligns with the Indian Army’s broader vision of nurturing talent, promoting physical fitness, and fostering community development. This premier league isn’t confined to the cricket field; it’s a stage for these talented girls to showcase their skills to the world,” it reads.
