NHM employees call of strike after Health Minister’s assurances

September 19, 2026 | Ayaan Wani

Srinagar, Sep 18: National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir have called off their ongoing strike on Friday after a written assurance from Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo over their pending demands.

The decision was taken following deliberations between the representatives of NHM employees and the government, wherein the Health Minister assured the striking employees that their genuine demands would be taken up for consideration and appropriate action.
After the written assurance, the NHM employees decided to suspend their protest and resume duties, bringing much-needed relief to healthcare services that had been hit due to the strike.
The NHM employees were pressing for resolution of their long-pending demands including job security, regularization and service conditions.
The representatives of the employees thanked Minister Sakeena Itoo for giving written assurance and said they will wait for further action from the government on the commitments made.
NHM staff from various districts, hospitals, health centres and other healthcare institutions across Jammu and Kashmir had joined the protest, which continued peacefully for the past 9 days.
The NHM employees were demanding a comprehensive employment policy, revision of remuneration on parity with NHM workers in other states, job security and regularization, benefits including EPF, ESI, insurance coverage and post-retirement support.
