Srinagar, July 1: Samir Ahmad Wagay, a Ph.D. scholar from the Department of Mathematics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, has been selected to participate in the 14th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), scheduled to be held in Heidelberg, Germany, from September 13 to 22, 2025.
Wagay, who is pursuing his doctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Rameez Raja, Assistant Professor at NIT Srinagar, is among only 200 young researchers worldwide chosen through a rigorous and competitive selection process for this globally renowned forum.
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is a premier networking event in the fields of mathematics and computer science. It offers young researchers and Ph.D. students the rare opportunity to engage with laureates of the world’s most prestigious awards, including the Abel Prize, ACM A.M. Turing Award, ACM Prize in Computing, Fields Medal, IMU Abacus Medal, and Nevanlinna Prize.
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) will fully sponsor the entire trip, covering international travel, accommodation, and participation costs, enabling scholars to focus entirely on lectures, workshops, and networking opportunities during the week-long event.
Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, extended his congratulations to Mr. Wagay and lauded the Department of Mathematics for its dedication to nurturing global-caliber researchers.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also praised the achievement, calling it a moment of pride for the institute and a source of inspiration for other research scholars.
Dr. Rameez Raja, Mr. Wagay’s Ph.D. supervisor, expressed his joy and emphasized the importance of such international platforms in offering valuable exposure and academic growth to young scholars.
Established in 2013, the HLF is annually organized by the HLFF, an initiative of the Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), a German foundation committed to promoting the natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science. The forum was envisioned by Klaus Tschira, physicist and co-founder of SAP, to bring together bright young minds and their scientific role models.
The foundation was formally established in 2012, in collaboration with major international award-granting institutions, and held its first forum the following year.
