The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar is all set to host its much-anticipated Global Alumni Meet – Sangam 2025 on October 10 and 11, marking one of the most significant homecoming events in the institute’s six-decade history.
The two-day event will bring together hundreds of distinguished alumni from across India and abroad, celebrating the enduring bond between graduates and their alma mater through philanthropy, mentorship, and collaborative vision for the future.
Several eminent alumni of the institute — formerly known as Regional Engineering College (REC) Srinagar — have stepped forward with generous endowments to support academic excellence, innovation, and leadership among current students.
Alumni Contributions and Endowments
Among the notable contributors are Dr. Pradeep Tyle, Er. Ashok Dhar, Er. B. Madhusudhana Rao, Dr. Sultana N. Nahar, Dr. Arun Jaura, and Er. M.G.V. Sridhar, who have collectively pledged significant funds to NIT Srinagar.

Er. Ashok Dhar (Chemical Engineering, 1972–77), a former senior executive in Fortune 500 companies, has instituted the Ashok Dhar Gold Medal with a ₹2 lakh contribution, to be awarded annually to the top student in Chemical Engineering.
Er. B. Madhusudhana Rao (Mechanical Engineering, 1985) has donated ₹2 lakh to establish a gold medal for the branch topper in Mechanical Engineering, calling it his way of “giving back to the institute that shaped his career.”
Other prominent alumni participating in Sangam 2025 include Er. Malay Chatterjee (Civil Engineering, 1984), Member (Technical) at the Odisha Real Estate Appellate Tribunal and former CMD of KIOCL Ltd., and Er. Ram Mohan (Engineering, 1984), a veteran business strategist who has held leadership roles at Motorola, Tata Group, and Tech Mahindra.
Dr. Sultana N. Nahar, Professor at The Ohio State University, USA, has instituted the Sultana Nahar and Alburuj R. Rahman Prizes for excellence in Physics and Mathematics. The awards, developed with Prof. M.A. Shah and Prof. Seemin Rubab, aim to rekindle interest in STEM fields.
Er. M.G.V. Sridhar has announced a gold medal in memory of his late father, Prof. M.G. Seshagiri Rao, a revered Physics faculty member.
Dr. Arun Jaura, CEO of Traktion by Jaura, has pledged ₹3 lakh towards the Traktion Technology & Innovation Award, recognizing students excelling in innovation and digital transformation.
Keynote Sessions and Highlights
The event will feature interactive sessions, panel discussions, and keynote addresses by prominent alumni.
Mr. Deepesh Kaushish (Chemical Engineering, 1977–82), Executive Advisor at ExxonMobil, will deliver a keynote titled “Transforming Energy, Inspiring Engineers: Lessons from a Global Career.”
Dr. Ajit Nair, a pioneering biomaterials scientist with over 35 patents, will speak on “Pioneering the Future of Medicine: Innovations in Medical Device Technology.”
Other distinguished attendees include Nirmal K. Goyal (Electrical Engineering, 1982), a leader in transformer technology; Er. Sayyed Parvez Qalandar (Chemical Engineering, 1980); and Mr. Chitla Sambasiva Rao (Mechanical Engineering, 1985), who has contributed ₹1 lakh toward the alumni fund.
Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia hailed the contributions as “a defining chapter in the institute’s legacy.”
“These grants symbolize the unbreakable bond between our alumni and their alma mater. They show how success, when rooted in gratitude, can transform institutions and lives,” he said.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman described the initiatives as “investments in the future of students,” while Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni and International Affairs, said the alumni response has been “overwhelming.”
“For the first time since 1960, NIT Srinagar’s alumni have united on such a large scale — not just to reconnect, but to contribute meaningfully. Their vision and generosity are building a legacy of academic and professional excellence,” Prof. Shah said.
The two-day event will also include cultural performances, campus tours, and networking sessions, blending nostalgia with a forward-looking vision for the institute’s future.
“This meet is as much about celebrating memories as it is about charting a roadmap for the next chapter of NIT Srinagar,” Prof. Shah added.
