Anantnag, Jan 25: MP Mian Altaf clarified on Sunday that there is no concrete proposal for a Bijbehara–Pahalgam railway line, calling current discussions “mostly rumours.”
Reacting to villagers’ concerns, he said he has not seen any official documents or approvals for the project. “There are more rumours than facts. So far, I do not think there is any such proposal,” he stated.
The MP added that even if the project were proposed, it offers no clear public benefit and could disrupt local life. Villagers have expressed apprehensions about land acquisition and environmental impact, though authorities have not confirmed any plans.
Mian Altaf emphasized that development projects should be based on necessity, transparency, and public consent, not speculation.
