Jammu, Jan 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday responded to demands for opening a National Law University (NLU) in Jammu, stating that no final decision has yet been taken on the location and that the government will take an appropriate call in due course.
Talking to reporters in Jammu, Omar said when prestigious institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) were sanctioned for Jammu, there were no protests from Kashmir.
He urged people not to politicise the issue of educational institutions and stressed the need for a balanced and inclusive approach.
“The government will decide where the National Law University will be established. At this stage, no decision has been taken,” the CM said.
“Such matters should be viewed in the larger interest of the Union Territory rather than through a regional lens,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing demands and protests in Jammu, where several groups and student organisations have been calling for the proposed NLU to be established in the region.
