‘No Govt ever cared to ask us about our pain’

July 14, 2025 | Ashok Dixit

Suhail Yusuf Shah, a resident of Kupwara whose mother was killed by terrorists, has voiced a powerful plea to Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, urging the administration to finally acknowledge the suffering endured by victims’ families.
Speaking to reporters, Suhail said, “No government has ever cared to ask us about our pain. For decades, the political class in Jammu and Kashmir has ignored the victims while playing into the hands of the ISI, empowering terrorists and abandoning those who have lost their loved ones.”
His statement sheds light on a deep sense of neglect felt by families affected by terrorism in the region. Suhail’s mother was one among many innocents caught in the crossfire of ongoing violence, and like numerous others, his family has struggled for recognition and justice.
Suhail criticized past governments for failing to protect citizens and for engaging in political games that often benefited terror groups indirectly. “The victims were left to rot while the powerful continued their agendas,” he added.
Addressing Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directly, Suhail expressed hope that the new administration would break this pattern of neglect. “We look to you to bring meaningful change — to listen to our stories, to acknowledge our pain, and to ensure that families like ours receive the respect and support we deserve,” he said.
His call echoes the sentiments of many in Kupwara and across Jammu and Kashmir who seek justice, recognition, and concrete assistance after years of turmoil and loss. Suhail’s plea underscores the urgent need for compassionate governance focused on healing the wounds inflicted by decades of conflict.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his congratulations to the four distinguished individuals nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu.
In a post on X, Shah said, "Heartiest congratulations to distinguished historian Dr. Meenakshi Jain Ji, former diplomat Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla Ji, social worker Shri C. Sadanandan Master Ji, and senior advocate Shri Ujjwal Nikam Ji on being nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Hon’ble President".
Praising their lifelong commitment to service, Shah added, "Through exemplary contributions to your chosen fields, you have enhanced the honor of the nation. I firmly believe that the endowment of your vast knowledge, experience, and prowess will further enrich our national discourse in the Parliament and accelerate India's journey towards greatness."
