August 17, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Guwahati, Aug 16: The Northeast marked India's 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, community participation and a strong message of national unity, as formations under the Spear Corps organised celebrations across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.

From remote frontier villages and forward areas to schools, military garrisons and local communities, the celebrations brought together soldiers, students, youth, families, veterans and civilians in a series of activities centred on patriotism and the spirit of Nation First.
The events reflected the diverse cultural character of the Northeast while highlighting the shared bond of national identity. Communities in frontier and remote areas participated alongside security personnel, giving the celebrations a strong people-centric character.
A range of initiatives was organised to commemorate the national occasion, with programmes involving schools and young people forming an important part of the celebrations. The participation of students and youth provided an opportunity to connect the younger generation with the values of India's freedom struggle and the responsibilities associated with citizenship.
The celebrations also witnessed the participation of families and veterans, creating an inter-generational platform to remember the sacrifices behind India's independence and celebrate the country's progress.
In remote frontier villages, the programmes carried the message of national unity to communities located far from major urban centres. The outreach also underscored the importance of strengthening bonds between the Armed Forces and local populations in the region.
Across the five states, the events combined patriotic activities with local cultural expressions, reflecting the Northeast's rich traditions and its integral place in India's national fabric.
The celebrations were marked by the spirit of unity in diversity, with people from different communities coming together to honour the Tricolour and celebrate the nation's 80 years of independence.
For the Spear Corps formations, the Independence Day programmes also provided an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the people and the nation. The participation of troops alongside civilians reinforced the message that national security and national development are strengthened through trust, cooperation and shared responsibility.
From the frontiers of Arunachal Pradesh to the communities of Manipur, Assam, Mizoram and Nagaland, the celebrations carried a common message: India's strength lies in its diversity, its unity and the enduring spirit of Nation First.
