Northern Army Commander reviews South Kashmir security grid

Jammu, Sep 14: Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, SM, reviewed the counter-terrorism grid in South Kashmir, taking stock of the prevailing security situation, operational preparedness and response mechanisms of formations and units deployed across the region.

During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on the security environment, surveillance arrangements, intelligence mechanisms and measures being undertaken to counter emerging threats.
Lt Gen Sharma stressed the need for constant vigilance, intelligence-led operations, rapid response and seamless coordination among the Army, police, CRPF and other security and intelligence agencies.
He emphasised that the evolving security environment requires forces to remain adaptive and technologically alert, with actionable intelligence shared swiftly and converted into effective operational responses.
The Army Commander also reviewed the existing intelligence and surveillance architecture, underlining the importance of timely information-sharing and coordinated action to identify and neutralise threats at an early stage.
The review comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to strengthen the integrated counter-terrorism mechanism in Jammu and Kashmir. Lt Gen Sharma has repeatedly stressed greater synergy among security and intelligence agencies to ensure coordinated responses to emerging challenges.
During his interaction with officers and troops, the Army Commander appreciated their professionalism, resilience and dedication under demanding operational conditions. He exhorted personnel to remain mission-ready, vigilant and adaptable while maintaining the highest standards of discipline.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma assumed command of Northern Command on May 1, 2025. Headquartered at Udhampur, the command oversees the strategically sensitive Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
A decorated officer of the Madras Regiment, he has held several key operational and command appointments, including Director General of Military Operations and Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). He is a recipient of the Sena Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal.
The latest South Kashmir visit underscores the Northern Command’s continued emphasis on intelligence, preparedness, technology and inter-agency coordination to maintain a robust security grid and safeguard peace and stability across the region.
